Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! Birth doulas are amazing caregivers who provide physical, emotional and mental support to clients before, during, and in the hours after birth. They help their clients prepare to have the most positive and empowering birth for them. In my opinion, every birthing person in the world should have a birth doula!

AND….Postpartum doulas are ALSO amazing caregivers who enter the picture when you bring your baby home. Postpartum doulas provide loving care and support as families make the transition from pregnancy to life with baby! You spend SO much time preparing for labor and childbirth, perhaps you took a breastfeeding or newborn care course, but there is truly nothing that prepares you for the experience of bringing home a new baby. Your postpartum doula will be there to help you recover from and process your birth experience, provide evidence based information regarding newborn care, feeding, bonding, soothing, etc. and help with household duties such as cleaning, laundry and organizing.

  • NO! I’m sure you have heard the expression, “it takes a village to raise a child.” You will undoubtedly be an amazing parent regardless of your level of experience with babies, but becoming a new parent is tough, and everyone needs and deserves love and support in the postpartum phase!

  • Even if you have an amazing group of friends and family who are ready and willing to help when baby arrives, a doula is always a great addition to your care team! Although your mom or your best friend may have the best intentions, that doesn’t always mean they are the best people to offer the full spectrum care you need in the postpartum weeks. A doula provides a dedicated, unbiased source of support who is there to listen to and care for you with absolutely no judgement. Doulas often work concurrently with family and friends to ensure that you and your family are taken care of in all aspects!

  • Absolutely not! Every parent, no matter their style, deserves the loving support of a doula. Your doula can help you find the parenting style that works best for you, which is often a mix of various methods. But no matter what you choose, your doula is there to support you and give you the resources you need for success.

  • No! Many of my clients are second and third time moms who struggled trying to get through the postpartum period without help with their previous babies and are looking to have the amazing experience they deserve this time around! In addition to giving you a refresher on newborn care (it is amazing how quickly you forget!), your doula can also be an invaluable resource for navigating the dynamics of bringing a baby into a home with other children. And, most importantly, you deserve unconditional TLC every time you give birth, not just the first time!

  • Of course! I would highly recommend a doula for ANY new parents. No matter how your baby arrived, being a new parent is tough and you deserve the same level of love and support. Your doula will help you create and maintain your newborn bubble so you can bond with and learn your baby as well as provide education on feeding, soothing and all things newborn care.

  • No! Most postpartum doulas do book up a few months in advance, however we always make every effort to help new families get the support they need. While your doula may not be able to provide full coverage, they may be able to split the coverage with another doula in their circle or provide virtual support.

And don’t forget to check out the Bring Home Bliss Heartbeat community to learn the basics of newborn care, chat with other new parents in the same boat, learn from experts on postpartum and newborn care and so much more!

  • Costs are based on a variety of factors including hours, location, and length of contract. When you schedule a consultation, you will be asked to provide some details about what you are looking for, and I will send you an information packet via email to review prior to our call.

Some insurance carriers are starting to cover doula services! Some options for postpartum doula reimbursement are Carrot and HSA/FSA. Inquire with your HR department to see what your company offers! I am happy to provide any necessary paperwork to assist in getting you these benefits!
